Not too long ago I was in Bankhead National forest camping with a few friends. We heard vocalization that I am unfamiliar with. It had similarities to the hoot of an owl as far as the depth of the voice but was very choppy with a lot of fluctuation. And we heard it at all times of the day. One more curious thing about it was that we would hear one sound and then it would be answered by another one on the opposite side of the camp.
Then there was one incident where I left camp around 5:00 a.m. to use the restroom and as I finished and turned around to walk back to camp I heard these sounds from no more than 30 yards behind me. Needless to say it just about startled me out of my skin.
I am just curious if this rings a bell with anyone because as I said, I have never heard it before and have not heard it since. Unfortunatlly I was unable to get a recording of it.

Those strange owl calls have been heard by many.
I am not going to say that every owl sound is or may be a Bigfoot. It could very well be exactly what it sounds like..an owl.
What you have to do is listen and try to determine what else is going on out there along with the owl sounds. If you hear something running out there on 2 legs that sounds like it might weigh in at 400 lbs. then most likely you got something out there BIG with and owl, one BIG owl or something BIG making sounds like an owl.
That is were the research and recording gets interesting. Always a mystery out there.

Watch1,
It's interesting you say that because we went around to some of the neighboring camp sites to ask if they had heard anything interesting during their stay. The main answer we got was "not too much besides a few owls and that bear that has been running around pushing trees over"
We asked if they actually saw the bear and they all said no, you could just hear some kind of grunting and then the noise of what sounded like trees falling.
Of course though, this happened all the night before we got there. Thanks for the reply.

Well, that was interesting. That last reply was mine. I guess Cliff used this computer this morning and was still signed in. Ooopss.

Interesting that they paid attention to the trees being pushed over. My caving friends and I used to be paced in the woods by the sounds of tree-knocking and trees being pushed over. In almost 15 years of hearing that fairly frequently, only one person in my group of friends (besides me) ever thought it odd that in a 20-minute interval we'd hear up to five trees get shoved over, all parallel and just above us on the hillside. This other person also believed it was Bigfoot doing it. Most people just don't seem to notice stuff like that.
Did you happen to hear any odd two-note whistles? I've noticed that the whistles and tree-shoving often seem to occur in conjunction with one another.

I didn't hear any whistles that time. However, we just went back to that same place last weekend and I did hear some interesting whistles. These were two note whistles and they carried on for 3 to 4 seconds at a time. Very curious sounds to say the least.
