My story goes like this ............ Let me start out by describing the area , This took place in what WAS a small town just north of Tampa, Fl ( Citrus Park ) . It was primarily made up of woods, swamps, cattle ranches, dairy farms and orange groves . My grandmother had a half acre of land that backed up to a very large stretch of woods .
My encounters started when I was about nine years of age , my bedroom was in the back of the home and we had no air conditioning so windows had to be open during the summer . Anywhere from eleven pm on , this " being " would come to my back window and stare in at me . There were even a few times that it would try to fit its head in between the window panes .
I would scream for my g-ma and by the time she would get back there the " being" would be gone . This went on until I was about twelve and I got my wish to move into the bedroom up in the front . The encounters never happened to me in the front bedroom due to a shed that was blocking the window .

The next thing to happen was when I was sixteen , My sister had moved a trailer in behind my g-mas home a few years earlier and her and her husband were off for the night . My g-ma was home alone and it was around eleven pm when she noticed that my sisters two dogs were going nuts . She grabbed her gun and a flash light and took off behind my sisters place . When she came around the corner she saw the dogs running for the fence barking and then running back for the trailer and whining . Just as she took a step toward the fence she raised the flashlight up and spotted something huge and dark standing amongst the tree line . She then took another step toward the fence and caught a whiff of something that took her breath away . When this happened she fired a shot into the ground and this thing took off into the woods .

I grew up with these or this " being "  for numerous years  and with  my encounters and  hearing the stories as a kid , It is what led me to  researching these guys  going on about  fifteen to sixteen  years now  .

I have more things that happened around the area but they are pretty much second hand stories .
There were alot of sightings in the Citrus Park area but no one really reported them due to the fact that they didnt want to be criticized and the "old timers " didnt want people nosing around their property ....

The Thomas Ranch and the Geracies(not sure of sp) who had several cattle properties around Sheldon Rd and Gunn Hwy had issues with a
"THING" that was killing their cattle .
What was so puzzling to the ranchers was that they couldnt link the killings to any known predators . The local dairy farmers had issues too .

My G-mother who had a couple of friends in the Sheriffs dept & Hwy Patrol tell her of different stories and calls they would get and have to go investigate and how they were just dumb founded at what they saw or heard .
The Hwy Patrol officer ( SGT Harry Mofield ) had a few calls that were strange .

The one that was strange to me was the one about the orange grower who had someone that would eat anywhere between 15 to 20 some oranges in a night and who ever it was had HUGE feet . The Sgt went to investigate it and saw what was left of the oranges , saw the tracks which led to a bay head that turned into a massive swamp area . Well he told the grower he wasnt about to go tromping through the swamp for a very large orange thief . The grower told him of the strange noises that would come from the swamp and Sgt Harry told him that that made it even more in his decision of not going in there .......

Thanks cryptoseeker for sharing your encounters with us.

This is the first time I have heard of the possibility of oranges being eaten by these creatures. I guess it all goes back to what is natural to the area.

Thanks!

Mike (watch1)

Very good accounting of some of your experiences with this creature. I, also like Mike, am intrigued about the one stealing/eating the oranges as I've found with the things that I have seen, that out of an assortment of choice's of various fruits (apples, plums, bananas, watermelon, cantaloupe, oranges, tangerines), that they would leave behind the citrus (learned something new here). I just related to a member of the forum that I had never known them to take citrus fruit (Timex). Reckon I'll have to readjust my thinking. I wonder if it is a regional aspect?

Thanks for sharing this.

BTW: Beautiful horse used in your avatar. I have two 'paint's of my own.

Thanks cryptoseeker,

Another example of how many encounters with strange bipedal prints found and evidence but no one reports the incident.  I hate to admit that I never reported what was happening around my old place either except for one because the back door was pushed in and off the frame.   I wonder if the newspapers ever picked up any of these stories.

Well, D.B., like Mike says, there are a lotta oranges in FL. I doubt that any RFP in our area would know what an orange was. (Unless they get them in their stockings at Christmas.)

Thanks for sharing this. I know sometimes it takes a bit of courage to talk about personal experiences.

I wonder what else your Grandma knew or saw that she wasn't comfortable in sharing.

The oranges don't surprise me. I have observed that gifting citrus don't fly to well in the Midwest. However if the oranges are peeled they are sometimes taken. I think it depends on which Local is around to take it.

;)Different strokes for different folks.;)

I have thought to myself that the big guy down here has to be in pretty good healt  due to the vitamin c consumption  lol .
I have even heard of them sometimes eating grape fruits  too .   I even thought the local cattle might be the culprit  but you dont see any hoof tracks and usually when cattle eat citrus they eat the whole thing  not just the inside  .

Dixie B ~  Thank you ,  That is my son/nephew lol .  He belongs to my sis and I and  I was there the moment he was born and have basically been with him everyday untill a year and a half ago when my sis moved to the foothills of the Georgia mountains .
Everyone knows him as " Friday "  but his show name is " I Be Rockin"  .   He is just shy of being 15'2 hands  .   You cant go wrong with Quarter horses or Paints  in my book :)  .......

Hey Carolann,

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences.  As for the citrus, at least here in Florida, there are alot of old growth....and I'm talking old growth....orange and grapefruit groves all over.  You can find them hidden in wooded areas everywhere.  I'd be more surprised if they didn't eat them.  It's a ready food source.  Just my two cents worth from the Sunshine State.  :)

First off never write a post in a hurry  , I just caught two mistakes I made earlier lol .  Healt  was supposed to be  Health  and Friday is just shy of being 16' 2 hands  not  15'2  .....

Donna C ~   Yes you are so right about the old growth down here  .  I have even come up on any where between one to five  citrus  trees  out in the middle of no where  .    I hate the sour orange trees , I have been out on long hikes and have come up on one of those trees , grab an orange , peel it and then take a nice big bite of disgusting sour  lol ..  I have thought this could be why most Bigfoot wont eat citrus  due to the sour oranges , grape fruit  and kumquats . .......    :)

Great story Carolann i have also wondered if they eat the abundant supply of oranges and other fruit that are found everywhere down here.   I also lived off Sheldon Rd in the early 90's and can  remember all the Cattle fields and woods in the area.

Thanks Dereck !    It really is getting to be a small world with the two of us :) .
I have had so many people not beleive me about my encounters and the area out there  due to what Citrus Park looks like now .    We still have the property out there and every time I go over to it I get very depressed about the area being so populated .

It was a magical but scary  place to grow up .   When I was around the age of five , I remember climbing up on the couch and watching out the back living room window a florida panther that would lay on a limb at the edge of the woods and watch us in the house  .   Two streets down from mine was a rd called Gardner Rd  , there was an ex carney who lived there and he had his two lions  on the property .
Every morning  around five am these guys would cut loose and wake the dead  lol .   Sometime in the late seventies  Wildlife on Easy Street or Bigcat Rescue  moved in  up around the corner from us and at the other end of the wooded area , so we had those sounds as well   .   The other thing that would scare me was when this HUGE plane would fly over very low and very early in the morning about once every six months  spraying for mosquitos .
I am surprised I didnt have a nervous breakdown when I was a kid  lol .. ...
Carolann :)
