I got the chance to talk to some folks yesterday that I had been wanting to talk to for several weeks now. They have been in our area ( Clarke and Washington, County) for awhile doing seismic survey for oil exploration.
These folks have gone though some of the most remote areas there are and in some of the hardest to get to places. They cut straight paths through the woods and lay the cables down that are used in the seismic testing.
As I was getting off work I noticed one of the airboats, used to transport the many crews, coming into the local boat landing and I decided to see if I could talk to one of them or if he would talk to me.
The person that operates the boat was walking up the hill to get his truck and boat tailor to load the airboat.
I asked him if they had ever seen any strange animals out there and he laughed and said "OH yeah, folks don't believe us when we tell them what we seen". I said "I would like to hear about it". I asked if he had ever seen any big hairy human like creatures and he laughed and said "yep". He then started telling me they had had a few encounters with these things and said he had a picture of an 18 inch track in the boat.
He got in his truck and backed down the loading ramp and loaded up the airboat, pulled back up to the top of the ramp and stopped. He got his backpack out of the boat and got his camera out. He then showed me the picture of the 18 inch track and said he will try to get that to me when he gets a chance to.
He said the crews have had several encounters but nothing threatening. A few of the crew have taken the time to sharpen up their machete razor sharp. From what he said a few of the crews had problems with working in some of the areas. After finding the track up a shallow creek that they could only get up with the airboat, they did not want to get out of the boat. It seemed that they had to regroup but they did get though the area.
He talked about some of the crews seeing what they thought were large stumps up ahead of them as they cut though the brush only to hear something behind them and turn to look and try to figure out what that heard and then turn back to discover the large stumps would be gone.
One that was seen was about 8 to 9 feet tall, Brown with a redish tint and about 4 feet wide across the chest and shoulders. As it ran though the brush it was breaking limbs and trees 4 inches in diameter as it went.
One of the other things he spoke about was the many, many panther sightings. He said this place was eat up with those Brown panthers and a few Black ones have also been seen. He said he would not be coon hunting out there at night.
If anyone is interested in doing some research in the area of this activity, let me know. It is our plan to do some visiting to the area when the weather cools off and see if we can find more tracks and other sign.

Thanks alot!
I have no reason to doubt your posts...... I would love to come down from where I live(Shelby Co.) and spend some time with you
I use to hunt everything, but as I've gotten older I don't desire to kill anything, I think certain animals need to be harvested but I will leave that to others.
anyway not to ramble on but once again thank you for all the work you do, I look forward each morning to checking in on this forum to see what's happening in our neck of the woods. It's great to read about stuff in Wash, Oregon, WV, etc, but having info on stuff right here in good ole Dixie is by far my favorite.
