| This is a second hand report, as the original person is deceased.According to a man who is in his early fifties, but the story goes like this .When he was about 10 to 12 years he and he younger brother who was about 7 to 8 years were eating supper with thier parents, the parents were discussing the day events, when thier mother said that a man she worked with at the local cotton mill had had something happen to him the night before on his way to work, he worked the 3rd shift. He left home about 10:30 headed from Sylacauaga to Sycamore on the old Talladega/Sylacauga hwy (known as Old Field Road now). Its 4 miles from Sylacauga to Sycamore, about half though this road he noticed one of his tires were getting flat he pulled over to right shoulder of road and proceeded to changethe tire, he was just about finished when he heard foot steps down the road from Tallasseehatchee Creek coming his way, he kept working with the tire not thinking much about it he looked up and thought he saw a young teenage appoaching him,he spoke to what he that was a teenager, saying hello and told him if he needed a ride he could get the car, but the teenager never said a word but had got within about 20ft of the man changing the tire, at that moment the man started getting nervous,he stood up quick and turn toward the what he thought was a younger teenager, what he saw scared him he swing the tire tool toward the animal the animal let out a loud screamturned ran to a pasture fence and jump over then went to all fours across the pasture out of sight, the man jumped into the car left with some of the lug nuts still not tighten all the way.when he got to work he went to his boss and told him he just had seen a ape back down next to Tallasseehatchee Creek. According to second witness his mother said people made fun of the man. This sighting was next to a large dairy farm at the time, the dairy is closed down and grown up in thick pines.Tallasseehatchee Creek is 1/2 mile away to south and the Talladega National Forest mile to east.I have one more second sighting to report from the 1940s ,I will try to put on forum in few days. Mike, your report reminds me of a story my sister told me once. After a caving trip in AL (Jackson Co., I think), they were walking back down a dirt road toward the trucks. She was the last in the group and probably about 50 or 60 feet behind the person ahead of her. She saw a tall, thin man standing behind a large tree just off the road, looking in the direction of the people ahead of her. She assumed it was one of the group, preparing to hide and leap out to surprise her. She stopped and watched the figure for a few moments as it stared down the road while she decided what to do and tried to figure out who it was. It was just after dusk, and the figure was a monochromatic dark gray, which she thought was kind of weird, as she was close enough and it was still light enough that she should have been able to see clothing. She looked into the woods to see if she could do an end-run around him and surprise him, but decided it would be far too noisy. When she looked back, the figure was gone. She hadn't heard a sound, so she figured he ducked around the other side of the tree to hide from her. She walked up the road next to the tree, braced against someone leaping out at her, but no one did. She looked behind the tree and didn't see anyone, nor was there anything that could have looked like a man-shaped figure. Everyone else was already out of sight on the road, and they were all at the trucks when she got there. She figured it must have just been a ghost and continued on. Now, I have to wonder...

| This another second hand report of incident in the fall of 1942,told to me by the nephew of one of the wintess,4 young men were invovled in this incident, all are deceased. The exact location was asked to be withheld because of relatives still living on property. The incident was located on the west side of Sylacauga toward the small community of Fayetteville, few miles of the on going research area. The second hand witness is in his late fiftes and remembers well what his uncle told him and also hearing the vocalizations when he was a child. The story goes like this, In the fall of 1942 four young men two which were brothers and the other two friends in the community, all had been harvesting cotton in one of the fields that was next to one of the friends home it had gotten dark they pulled wagons to barn and put the mules up for the night. They finished feeding mules and were ready to go eat supper. The two brothers told the other men that they should go eat supper with them, so they headed toward home, instead of walking the road to home which was about a mile by road they decided to take a shot cut though the cotton fields. They passed thru the first field entered into a small set of woods, they exited into a much larger field that hadnt been harvested yet.One of the brothers broke into a jog getting a good distance between him and the others. He had gotten about to the other side, when all of a sudden something stood up in the cotton field about five feet from him and lounged and grab him at that moment he screamed out for help. What ever it was let him go,he took off in a dead run home .the other three not knowing what was going on took off running behind him. They finally caught up with him as he was opening the door to his home.He was shaking all over and couldnt hardly speak. Finally they and his parents got him calmed enough to tell them what happened. He said as he neared the end of the field something stood up five feet from him,he at first that one of his smaller brothers was trying to scare him,but quickly seen it was something esle all he could say was it hairy and very strong.it grabbed him in a bear type hugged, then thats when he screamed it let go at that moment he left running home , the other three men didnt see any thing.Prior to this the small community at different times had been hearing some type of howling sounds at night and some livestock had gone missing. For a few years the sounds quit and everything settled down, the nephew of man who got grabbed ,went to live with his grandparents, he said in the late fiftes the sounds started back, but nobody ever saw what was making the sounds. Then the sounds ceased again,as far as any one knows no one has heard the sounds any more in that area,In the 1990s the second hand witness was watching a tv program about bigfoot, some researches were playing sounds that they had recorded, when he heard the exact same sound that he and other people had heard years ago. Witness believes that what may have been making those sounds. At the time the area was small row cropping farming with a large timber area to the south with rolling hills. At a later date I plan to get with witness and listen to differnt recordings to see which he had heard. mg plowboy

Plowboy,
It's nice to know there is someone researching in Sylacauga. I grew up there and have always heard stories from the area. My grandmother use to work at the cotton mill. She said when she walked home at night, down the Brick Yard Rd., that a large creature, which walked like a man, would flank her step for step on her way home sometimes. She said after a few times she stopped being afraid because she did not think it wanted to hurt her or it would have long before. My grandmother claimed that the creature she saw was white. Our family has had a few experiences in that area, but that was years ago when the area was not occupied by so many people. Even when I was growing up there were only a few families who lived at the end of that road.

| Hey, Gena sorry about not replying sooner. keys on my computer locked up had to order new one from dell. I know the area you mention well, know several families that have been there a good while. There are a lot of places that I need to check but just dont have a enough time to do it.I believe these creatures have always been in our area, but with urban growth this could be why there are more sightings.Glad to see people from our area on the forum.I will send you a pm at later date with more information about our area. Just heard from a neighbor of mine who told me about something he tought was a bear trying to climb up his tree stand. He is one of these people who hunt every day of the hunting season, and is familiar with all the local wildlife.
He said that it started shaking the ladder stand that he was in and making a growling sound. He is not one to make up stories or even exagerate about things. He has even stated that he has seen a few bears in the area but this was no bear (it walked on two legs and was over six feet tall and had a neck like a boar hog).
Like I said he is not one to make up stories or lie, so I have to believe him in that he saw something that was not right. We have a bear sighting every few years but he said that this was not a bear. We live in a rual part of Cleburne County just a few miles from a large uninhabited area.
If you hear of any thing going on in the Cleburne County area let me know (some really large coyotes are showing up in this area also).

I would have loved to explore the area before all the folks moved in. There is a lot of other stories from my family about BF activity in the area. My grandmother was very old fashion and I was not allowed to go camping with the guys or hunting. So I missed out on a lot of adventures and possible BF experiences.
