The 6 feet or 20 topic made me think about the difference in species around the world. I narrowed it down to Almas, Neanderthal, Gorilla, Human, Yeti, Bigfoot & Gigantopithecus. Then I made another comparison chart to illustrate the difference in average reported height. I scanned the web and a few books then took an average of the heights for each species.
- I picked the Almas because it's taken seriously in several European countries, to the point that the local academia considers the possibility of a relict group of Neanderthals causing the reports.
- Which led me to Neanderthal, because of the similarities they share(d) with Humans and the fact that the last known to die was 29,000 years ago. (Opens up more discussion on what/who they were to just dissappear and only in recent history be noticed at all.)
- Gorilla was obvious because that's what everyone is seeing, an escaped one.
- Human because it's what most of us are. (I used the US male average.)
- Yeti, because of the mystery behind the creature that for some reason get's more credence, presumably because it could exist so far in the mountainous wilderness of some foreign land.
- Bigfoot, because that's the whole point.
- And last Gigantopithecus, because for some reason our scientific community can almost accept this as the source for all the Bigfoot hoopla.
All are based on averages of published heights and the proportions may be off as usual. Luckily only the Gorilla, Human and Neanderthal can be refuted. If the others are just too far off, make sure to send me a good clear photo for reference so I can correct the mistake.
