I posted this several years ago and I'm now bringing it back to try and explain something.

To all of those who love calling certain one's of us in the South "Redneck's" let me be the first to enlighten you to the fact that I'm Proud AS Hell to Be Called a Redneck!

REDNECK : The true meaning of a REDNECK is any person, rich or poor, who earns his living by working outside. During the summer months, especially in the South, the hot rays from the sun will redden his neck. Of course, this name is actually two words, "red neck," but I hope that you would dignify it by using it as one word, Redneck, and treat it as a proper noun by capitalizing the letter "R".

The name Rednecks and Americans are synonymous. Let us not forget that this country was founded and developed by Rednecks, remember Daniel Boone, David Crockett, Lewis and Clark, any explorer or adventurer for example. Every war in which we have been involved was fought and most of them won by Rednecks. Rednecks provide us with food, clothing, and shelter. There are many wealthy people in this country who are either active or former Rednecks. It doesn't matter how wealthy a person might be, how many college degrees he has attained, if he is from the North, South, East, or West or if he is just a simple farmer, if he works outside or has ever worked outdoors, he is a legitimate Redneck. One of our best known American Redneck's was Abraham Lincoln, our sixteenth President. Born in a Kentucky log cabin, he had to split rails as a youngster. Would anyone have the audacity to deny the fact that this hard labor caused his neck to redden? Finally, practically all Southern, certified Redneck's love 'coon, 'possum, 'tater's, 'maters, mountain oysters, rooster fries, green's, and chitlings! Hell, all of these delicious dishes should be considered as being synonymous with Patriotism!

Now on the other side of the coin you have a group of people termed "White Trash"!

White Trash: A white, no-good deadbeat who thinks that the world owes him/her a living! They are lazy, trifling, can't hold a job, won't pay their just and honest debts (more than likely an illiterate or someone who knows everything while other people's opinions mean nothing), judgmental, and very critical. Their purpose in life is to out-wit and out-smart Rednecks, protect only THEIR constitutional rights, cook up ways to take credit for others hard, knowledge, learn how to beat a debt, study out ways to avoid problems, make excuses, never worry while treading on the backs of others, and start life all over again every morning when they decide to wake up! They also believe that things other people find (information) should belong to them and them alone! With all the hard earned credit going to them!

Some of these "Good ole Boys" might know a thing or two about boogers but this is because we have the "red neck" to prove it, by actually going out into the woods looking around instead of baking in a tanning bed and reading/stealing other Rednecks work to post or declare as their own on various forums or radio shows.

I can bet your ass about one thing, you ain't getting nothing done by sitting in the house and attempting to justify your credentials by ridiculing others. It will take someone with a red neck to help solve this puzzle as from all my years of observing, I have never known a booger to knock on anybodies door, and sit down in their living room to discuss this.

Get a life and, at least, act your age like your Mama tried to teach you.

If a tree falls in the forest, and nobody is there to witness it, does this tree falling make a sound?

Hope the above clears this up.

A PROUD REDNECK

Bear

Thank you so very much for re-posting!  I liked it so much, I saved it on Microsoft Word so I can read it again and again.  And NEXT time someone calls me an "ignorant redneck", I can let that person have it -- verbally!  woohoo

It was not the fact that somebody called me a Redneck, it was the implied meaning by certain people's remarks from the radio show in the text chat room.

This does not bother me as I was not reading it, but some good friends from this forum felt that they had to defend my honor which I'm very grateful for. When somebody has nothing to relate they attempt to tear into one's character especially by insinuating the region, from the evidence of my southern dialect. This is devious in that the Internet makes mice into men. I would much rather have them mention these remarks to my face but that will never happen as we are dealing with cowards.

So, I just wanted to clear up the fact that I'm not ashamed of my heritage and wear the mantle proudly.

What I think somebody should do is make a list of names with these idiots listed so if the very real existence of BF is allowed then this list would verify the names of those that should publicly eat crow after the fact instead of standing in line congratulating themselves for work that they did not do. From certain things I have heard mentioned from the ones showing their true colors on the radio text chat, by acting like ignorant fools, these people have publicly stated that they are now the new Four Horsemen of the BF world. The only attribute I can see that would class them with John Green, Rene Dahinden, Peter Byrne, and Grover Krantz is the fact that neither the new self-proclaimed horsemen, along with the old guard, have never laid a eye upon a BF. The difference though, between the two is, at least the old guard got out into the woods, where as, far as I can see, all these self-proclaimed ones do is sit behind a computer and run off at the mouth. Not any comparison in my opinion.

I understand what you are speaking about now. I saw the ones posting, as you were speaking. They are mere children who think this machine is nothing but a toy for their amusement. You and I have spoken about folks who are always children and that's all they ever will be,remember?  You are right,Bear. As my dad used to say,"They wouldn't hit a lick at a snake if it was coiled up ready to strike."  Regretfully, they are always gonna be here and there.Yes, a list should be made so that they cannot bask in others' glory. I'll go you one further..I think that they should be banned from the radio show when they start their mess........TnC...........

Bear,

That statement should be put to music.  I am proud of my Redneck origins,  it made me a good Leatherneck.   I don't like being inside anymore, so I am selling my cafe and going back to the woods. YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL

Only in the south can you put a whole sentence in one word.

If Captain Piccard (StarTrek) was from the south..instead of saying "make it so" he would say "get-er-done"

Just a short F Y I.  There is a song about "Rednecks."

Can't remember the artist, but the song was, "REDNECKS, WHITE SOCKS, and

BLUE RIBBON BEER."  It was very popular Country song in the late '50's or early '60's.

I like the Redneck true meaning, Rednecks are not only in the south - we have plenty of proud Rednecks up here in Nebraska, actually several of them live in my house. There is another song, "Redneck Girl, got her name on the back of her belt".... which I guess would classify me as a redneck too.

Around here there is another term called Hillbilly, which can be used as an insult, but from my evaluating people, most of the hillbillies I see are just rural people with old fashioned values. I would much rather be around hillbillies, and rednecks too, than alot of people.

Charley; My Dream is to retire someday to the Ozarks of Missouri or Arkansas, and live among the hillbillies. They are really nice people. :cool:Oh ya, Florida would be ok too, but maybe too many alligators for my taste there.
