Living in rural Elmore County near Holtville (near the only encounter listed for Elmore County), I have heard strange sounds from the swamp behind the house at least 2 times. It sounded like a combination of a cow bellowing, a bobcat, and a wolf howl (yeah, I know that sounds funny huh?)...really made the hairs on my arm stand up. I haven't heard that kind of sound even from the sound clips found on this and other bigfoot sights. All I know is it was way back in the swamp and really loud. Any thoughts?

There's no way to say for sure one way or the other. With it being a good distance the sound has bounce off every tree, been muted on one side and amplified on the other. A strange sound is something that gets you going!! The best thing is to try and get a recording. I know that may not be the answer your looking for. Tell you what, whatever you think it was, I'll back you up on it!LOL. Just kidding, We'll keep looking for the answer to it. OK?

It has been said..if you don't see what is making the noise/sound then there is no way to tell what is making it. This is true..to a point. I heard what sounded just like a big bull bellowing a few days back. It came from an area that I know there are no cows in. It is possible that someones bull got out and is roaming around in the woods.
The strange thing about it was, an owl answered that bellow.

If you hear an owl that sounds like it's about 8 feet tall and it knocks wood on wood, most likely it is not an owl.
These creatures are mimics. They will mimic or at least try to mimic just about anything they hear. They are very good at it, but, there are times they mess up.

If what you heard was a continuous sound that went from one thing to another, let me ask you, what other animal makes such a sound? A coyote can make some strange sounds at times but if you are familar with coyotes you should be able to pick up on it being a coyote.
Sometimes there is no real way of knowing. Times like that are when you wish you had a recorder and had it recording.

Did it sound anything like these.....

One of our partners recorded these, along with a whole group of vocalizations, a few weeks ago in Mississippi.

The first recording I heard like these was the "Illinois Howls" recorded by Stan Courtney. They are very distinct and like Mike said, even though no one saw the critter make the sound, you can argue that it is from an "unknown animal".

Thanks Saycheez. I'm certainly no expert in vocalizations and there's no way I can say what this is. However, a couple of things stand out:

1. Whatever it is, it knows how to light up the coyotes.

2. Whatever it is, it probably isn't scared of the dark!

Is there any more you can post. Have you encountered any vocalizations that sound like a 'language'?

What ever it is I personaly heard it on several ocaisions while I was at the very same site. I also heard numerous, numerous knocks, some very close, some farther away seeming to answer the others. Whatever it is also walked around my tent one night in November I didn't get a visual, but the property owners have and the have named him "Eddie the Yeti".

SkunkApe has described the vocalizations and other sounds that have been recorded at 2 different "Project Sites" from a first hand perspective. The vocalizations have a power and low frequency component that doesn't seem possible for a canid or as in some other recordings, an owl.

JayB,
Yes we have been concentrating on recording indications of language use and have captured a few interesting snippets.

WOW! I thought it would be hard to explain and get a respose...but that is EXACTLY what I heard (especially the second clip). Made goosebumps on my arms.

Thanks!

All..very interesting recordings. Those whispers are the ones that I find the most interesting. I think it tells you they know someone is out there and they are whispering because of it.

I try not to play the sounds on the computer, makes my dog go nuts. LOL
I've heard sounds like this in Mississippi several times. Also long moaning howls.

I think, and I can't prove it, but I think they ambush coyotes and take their kills.

I have a recording around here somewhere that you hear coyotes cutting up something fearce, then you hear what sounds like one of the coyotes, perhaps the leader, get kicked really hard. It yelps loud. Then all go quiet for a few seconds and they start up again barking like they are confused and angry off.

It may be nothing, but in my minds eye I can just see that pack with a fresh kill having a BF come in, kick the leader and grab their supper then they run around all messed up over it.  It's kinda funny.

It's my humble and completely useless opinion that BF only take large game themselves, and steal the smaller stuff when they can.

But I'm no expert. So it's just an opinion
J.

Hambone3, welcome to forum, the area you leave in is very good spot.beening located close to the Coosa river. plus Coosa Co has had sightings, I have several reports from Coosa co but cant report them because witnesses wish not to have it reported.plus several years ago in Chilton Co there were sightings in the walnut creek area that emtpies in to the Coosa River.some of the sounds we have heard, some whooping type ,a long howling thats sounds just like the first part of seirra call, owls calls that dont sound just right, ape sounds(like ones getting mad or excited in a zoo).growling, screaming starting off like a man ending like a woman.just some sounds, some are hard to describe.      MG PLOWBOY

One of our partners recorded another "howl" on the night of January 22nd. It was recorded in Oklahoma and shares a lot of characteristics of similar recordings from Mississippi and Illinois and elsewhere. Enjoy.... dl

I am P3 or Project 3 at ShadowFolk.com that SayCheez and SkunkApe were speaking of earlier in this thread.

SkunkApe got closer to our friend "Eddie the Yeti" than any of us ever have!...or so we think!  I can honestly say that if I were SkunkApe that night I would have had to get up and change my panties!  Hubby and I were all snuggled in but I can honestly say I never heard SkunkApe squeal!:D

I have never heard the BigGuys here howling while it was actually taking place.  I have many, many recordings of howls and various sounds.  SkunkApe actually witnessed the howling first hand...or should I say first ear??:)

Hambone3, one of my best vocals if from Dec. 16, 2007.  It begins as if it is a cow bellowing but ends similiar to a wolf with no breath in between.  It's truly amazing!  I believe SayCheez already posted it.  Listen if you haven't.  As Watch1 mentioned, I also have the 1000-lb owls calling to each other!  (They have tried and tried to mimic the pipes of the riverboats but never seem to get it!)

These "Unknown Animals" are truly amazing creatures!

I listened to this several times and it does sound like something was doing a low growl at the beginning and it continued though the recording. Interesting recording.

That recording of Furbabies' was intense!!!  My desk here is solid wood and that clip was felt as well as heard.....I am so impressed by her recordings and this is one of the better ones IMO. :D

They must have one (bleep) of a vocal range to produce such a low bass tone which is just my opinion.  I have brand new speakers and headphones and I would recommend anyone listening to these and other recordings to try that instead of the desk speakers alone.  Also we have a sub woofer, I'm sure that helps also.

My wife and I have been listening in our area and heard a few of those owl- like calls mixed with what sounds like coyotes like on these sound files, but it wasn't until two nights ago we heard what you the call the 1000lb. owl, if this was an owl, it must have been the size of Big Bird:D, it was the strangest thing I'd ever heard, one of those run for your car moments.
