I set this forum up for us to discuss things we "think we know" about these creatures.

It has stayed "NONE" for awhile and I thought I would at least post something here so that it wouldn't appear we know nothing about them..LOL

Things we can say for sure:

They get big.

They are covered with hair.

Hair color can vary. White, Black, Brown, and Red tints have been seen.

See..that was easy.

Thanks for opening up this discussion,Bamabigf !! Well, We know that these beings are rather shy, opportunistic, have incredible strength and are family oriented---that is to say--after mating they seem to have a strong family unit--protecting one another and helping their family members. They are omnivores. They have excellent night vision. They are very curious--almost to a fault. They are stealthy. They are primarily bi-pedal but also can travel quadrapedally. Seems they dislike canines.Their stature seems bent forward from the waist. Their necks seem to have very little range of motion. Most reports state that they turn their entire body --from the waist to look in another direction. Most report a conical shaped head with a large brow ridge. Most have five digits on hands and feet.I'll have to think awhile on some more--I'll let everyone else take a shot at this!!-----TennesseeCherokee----------------

I've read a few reports by people who got close-up views in good daylight and commented that the conical shape is due to a topknot of hair that stands straight up rather than the actual shape of the head underneath the hair.

Being as they don't use cell phones, and/or the internet, they seem to have various methods of communicating with each other.

Certain ones do have sloping shaped heads, but the only female that I have ever seen with one is "Patty' from The Patterson film. This does not mean that they are not out there, just that the females I see, in the South, have more rounded heads.

The sloping shaped heads is a maturity phrase for adult male BF as close as I have determined. There is a certain stage in an adolescent male BF where it seems that their testosterone levels increase dramatically. The best way that I can describe it is comparing a young male bull (bovine) to an older one. They basically have the same equipment but when that younger bull gets older it seems that its bulk increases astronomically in a short period of time. Its like one day they started taking massive amounts of steroids. During this phase is when the male BF head shape starts appearing more sloping.

As Tal with his subject about habitation and habituation, the saggital crest of a mature BF is misclassified as a conical shaped head. I understand why it is described as conical shaped as when viewed from the front, it has a cone shape appearance. But when viewed from the side or angle, a position rarely reported, the angle is more sloping back from the brow ridge. Mature BF heads look conical due to the large bony crests on the top (sagittal) and back (nuchal) of the skull. These crests anchor the massive muscles used to support and operate their large jaws and teeth. The presence of this ridge of bone indicates that there are exceptionally strong jaw muscles. The sagittal crest serves primarily for attachment of the temporalis muscle, which is one of the main chewing muscles. Development of the sagittal crest is thought to be connected to the development of this muscle. A sagittal crest tends to be present on the skulls of adult animals that rely on powerful biting and clenching of their teeth, usually as a part of their hunting strategy. Skulls of some dinosaur species, including Tyrannosaurs, possessed well developed sagittal crests.

I know for a fact that they can make extraordinary leaps. My sister and brother were on their way home on our road at dark thirty one night in late fall.  This was years ago about 1978 and they were driving an old Pontiac with a noisy muffler. They came over a rise and my sister screamed some expletives, they both saw something on two, thick and hairy legs jump over the hood.  My brother also noticed a pelvic area as it cleared the car.

When they got home, they were absolutely frantic and I had a difficult time trying to understand what they were saying.  Finally they calmed down enough to tell me what happened.  I thought they were joking or exagerating.  I told them it was probably a really big bird.  They said, they weren't seeing things, they knew what deer looked like and this was NOT a deer.  They could not calm down for almost 2 days and I finally just chalked it up as another mystery from living out in the boonies.  Recently we all talked about it, they have never backed down or wavered from the original account of this.  I believe them and they have forgiven me for the rough time I gave them back then.

In my expererice they seem to love watching people. Especially children. When they are watching there seems never to be the odors that are noticed at other times.

This is what I believe about them. I believe they can blend so well in their enviorment, day or night as to not appear at all. I believe they are very very fast, they have to be. I believe they bury their dead. I believe they can see infrared and know what cameras are. I believe they have a specific  language. I believe they are more intelligent than many give them credit for.

Ditto 7FF, I believe a closer look at them is a look at our species thousands of years ago.

DITTO HERE!!!   Well said 7ff!!:D

I "believe" that they come in ALL sizes...to the extent we may be talking about more than one species of them.

I "believe" in the sixth sense...but was a complete skeptic until I was near them.  I am a STRONG BELIEVER in esp now.  (Those of you who don't agree with me...lets agree to disagree and let it be.)

I "believe" they are more human than most imagine.  IMHO OldCrow hit the nail on the head referring to them as a look at our species thousands of years ago.

I "believe" they are better off now...without our help.

Im no "expert" on the BF, but I have learned a few things from these around here so I thought I would list some of those things. Some are in a lighthearted manor, maybe a little silly since you already know most of them.

1.They love to beat on the side of homes and wake you in the middle of the night.

2. They love to throw things at us as well as at our homes.

3.They love to invade campsites and scare the living daylights out of campers.

4.Gladys Kravitz has nothing on them as far as being nosey.

5.They hate it when humans try to trick them by wood knocking. If you do that here, just get ready to run like your rearends on fire because they are going to charge you and get rid of you in a hurry .

6. They love to watch pulp wooders and bull dozers.

7. They look as if they are gliding when they walk.

8. They will follow atvs home.

9.They will take toys from your yard when left out especially balls.

10. They like to throw golfballs on the roof and watch them roll off.

11.They are fasinated at the site of a bird in a cage in front of a window.

12. They can clear your sinuses with the rancid odor they sometimes put off.

 13. If you get them aggravated, they will climb a tree and urinate on your vehicle.

14.  They can keep up with a car doing the speed limit on a country road.

15. You can't outsmart them no matter how hard you try.

16. They will take a purse if they can get a chance to get near one.

17. They love music and singing and will try to mimic it.

18. They do not like for us to invade their space and will do whatever it takes to block you out BUT, they don't mind invading yours and there is no way to block them unless you live in a castle.

19.They can sense who they can trust .

20. They would love nothing more than to be able to live peacefully within the boundaries of humans.

Great list Amber. Here are a few their Texas kin like to do:
1. Steal your deer or hog before you can recover them.:X

2. Vocalise their Anger for urinating in their territory.

3. Steal corn and/or the feeders from hunters.:(

4. Annoy your dogs at 3:00 AM. LOL

When I first started researching I had decided we were dealing with what I thought at the time was a species of unclassified apes.  Over the years I have seen and heard many things that has changed my mind.  I was on the AARF radio show and was asked by Richard Van Dyke what I thought they were.  I told him I thought they were more human than anything else.  Everyone I knew always guarded what they said around me prior to me coming to this conclusion.  I did not want to hear anything about these creatures being human.  It would only complicate research to think I was trying to study a lost race of humans or a race that did not want to be found.  This idea sounded totally ludicrous to me and was not acceptable as far as I was concerned.

Do I think they are humans, as we know them?  No, not at all, I feel they are humans but a species of human that left the open savannahs sometime in the Pleistocene epoch to flee homo sapiens as they began to wipe out most large mammalian species for food.  The only chance for the survival of their species was to go where man did not go, and that was deep into the forested regions of the world.  They adapted to living in these habitats and until this day fear us.  We humans are more violent than ever before.  They continue to watch us and see nothing has changed.

There is so much more to learn about these fascinating creatures and I feel we will never know everything, but only hope I can help others understand what they are.

Luke, good news and bad. The good is that I am in agreement with you. The bad is that I know NOTHING.

I don't know enough to suggest the 'beginnings'. I will say that in watching the shows on various channels where some prehistoric primate is described throughout as 'our ancestor' continues to baffle me. They can't link 'Lucy', for example to one other species much less the numbers it would take to get all the way to us. Needless to say, I cannot agree until they can 'connect the dots' (or the links).

It is said that the chimp is 96 or 98% (depending on the source) human. (I suppose this could be construed also that humans are 96 to 98% chimp.) Yet comparing the chimp to what little that is known about the sas, I suspect that DNA-wise, anyhow, we're much closer to our RFPs.

I suppose - and hope - that one day the answer will be found. Until that day, however, all evidence points toward a close relationship between humans and the sas for me. (In fact, I know SOME humans who are more animal than the boogers are.)

Very detailed descriptions ya'll !  I thought of a couple more.  RFP's can and do emit some sort of sulphur based compound from probable musk glands. These are probably in the groin or axillary (armpits). They seem to aerolsolize this malodorous substance because it travels rapidly and for quite some distance. They can turn this mechanism on or off at will. Many report this phenomenon, while others report not ever getting a whiff of it. I believe it is used when they are agitated, angry or just miffed that we have invaded their space.I also think that it means "get out" with a capital "G". They have a mid-tarsal break in the foot. This allows for excellent quadrapedal speed as well as being able to traverse very steep inclines bipedally. Probably suits them well also in tree climbing, giving their feet the ability to effectively get more surface area of the foot in contact with the tree trunk. I believe RFP's also can emit infrasonic sound waves to stun, nauseate and cause an immediate sense of hopelessness, fear and loss of equilibrium. I will yield the floor to my fellow researchers who have much more knowledge and experience than I.----TnC----------

Good points T.C. When it comes to odors they have many that I have come to associate with the locals. Urine, sewer smells, hog poop, a wet dog horse combination.

On rare occasions a very strong floral scent. The last scent is open to debate. The floral scent can sometimes even be detected in late fall and throughout the winter. I have noticed it year around. Some believe this is a scent to attract males. I have noticed it after hearing what sounds like newborn babies cry where there shouldn't be babies.

The skunky musky scent I leave open to interpretation also. I believe it can mean many things, including announcing I am here.
