Did anybody watch the episode last night?

Thought, at first, the story of the guy who was deer hunting when he had his encounter, and jacked the shells out of his rifle, was funny.  Then I began thinking how quickly this could have had a REALLY tragic ending.  Suppose he HAD fired his weapon.  One (or BOTH) of the parties could have been killed.

I watched it. I found that part very interesting. I wonder if this has happened to others as well. I don't hunt nor carry a weapon.  I can see how under stress things happen tho.

I've seen this happen on a couple of occasions with deer hunters when confronted with a exceptional trophy buck. They just chamber through their ammunition and not even realize that they did it. I've also read where combat veterans have done the same thing, especially during the war of Northern aggression (as there was nothing "civil" about that war). During the "conflict," especially the early stages, all firearms were of a smooth-bore type rifle and had to be loaded separately after each shot. There have been found, that a number of soldiers, had loaded as many as 5 separate charges in their rifle, one on top of the other, without pulling the trigger. This "gummed" up the rifle and made it totally useless.

This also adds much credibility to this story, as most self-respected hunters, would never admit to this type of mistake openly.

I really liked how they used the river and the thermol imager. And what the heck where the cattle doing there? It seems each show gets better every week.

Thanks, Shane

Watched the program. The way the program depicted his reaction, I don't understand why he just chose to shoot and
kill, not knowing what it was.

I've never heard that of happening before....very weird.  Guess he was so shook up he didn't even realize what had happened.

I agree DB. The guy was probably so scared, he didn't realize what he was doing.  I liked the show, especially the pictographs.

It's not an unheard of happening. Along with not being able to fire their weapon it is one of the conditions called "buck fever" in deer hunters, particularly new hunters. It has also been know to occur among men in combat, cycling their weapons without firing a shot.

Another thing that caught my attention, watching the re-run of this episode, was the construction of the dug-out cabin.  Not only was it  dug extremely deep, but it was completely faced with boulders.  It looks to me like it would have taken five or six very strong men to move each stone.  The entrance, also, was very narrow.  A moderate size man would have to turn sideways to go in and out.
